ABU DHABI (ALETIHAD)

The World Triathlon Women’s Cup returns for a second edition on December 6, with racing at Al Mamzar Beach Park open to women of all abilities.

The event, organised by Dubai Sports Council in partnership with World Triathlon and the UAE Triathlon Federation, is the only competition of its kind dedicated solely to women. Elite athletes and amateurs will compete at the same venue on the same day.

The Super Sprint comprises a 400-metre swim, 10-kilometre bike and 2.5-kilometre run. The Sprint covers 750 metres of swimming, 20 kilometres of cycling and a five-kilometre run. Both are open to women aged 18 and over and may be contested individually or as a relay of up to three athletes.

An elite race over the same sprint distance will award the winner 500 Olympic ranking points. The elite field is due to be confirmed closer to the date.

A separate Emirati category will recognise the top three finishers among Emirati women in both the individual and team competitions. Full course details are expected to be released later.

An event village will operate on December 5 and 6, offering spectators grandstand viewing, music, wellness activities and food outlets. Panel sessions under the banner WTWC Talks will cover nutrition, movement, mental wellbeing and work-life balance. The event follows the close of the Dubai Fitness Challenge on November 29.

Saeed Hareb, Secretary General of Dubai Sports Council, said: “We want it to be a lasting platform for women’s sport, inspiring more women and girls to take part, giving women athletes the visibility they deserve as role models, and building the confidence and ambition that carry into every part of life, including leadership.”
