The UAE mixed 4x400m relay team finished seventh in the final at the Asian Games Aichi-Nagoya 2026, recording a time of 3:21.94. Mariam Kareem dropped the baton, ending the team’s challenge after a strong showing that had kept them in contention.
The quartet of Suleiman Abdulrahman, Aminat Kamarudeen, Mariam Kareem and Emmanuel Bamidele had earlier qualified for the final by finishing third in their heat in 3:17.00, behind China and India.
In fencing, Khalifa Al Zarooni and Saleh Alblooshi both advanced from the pool stage to the round of 32 in the men’s individual épée. Al Zarooni secured three victories against opponents from Saudi Arabia, Mongolia and Pakistan before losing 15-5 to South Korea’s Hyomin Jang.
Alblooshi recorded two wins against the Philippines and Kuwait, then fell 15-5 to Kazakhstan’s Ruslan Kurbanov.
Ahmed Abdullah Al Ameeri scored 566 points to finish 39th of 60 competitors in the men’s 10m air pistol shooting event, while Mohammed Saleh placed 48th with 559 points.
Meanwhile, the UAE dressage team completed their final preparations after all four horses passed veterinary inspection and took part in a familiarisation session at the JRA Equestrian Park in Tokyo.
Ali Khalfan Al Jahouri (Lotus-S), Bianca Schütz (Le Grand Ayden HB), Mohamed Jassim Alserkal (Zen Liquidity) and Natalie Lankester (Tesla DXB) will contest the team and individual Small Tour events, which begin on Friday.
China extended its lead in the medal table with 120 medals (76 gold, 27 silver, 17 bronze). Japan was second with 87 (20 gold, 30 silver, 37 bronze) and South Korea third with 50 (10 gold, 12 silver, 28 bronze).
Among Arab nations, Kuwait led with five medals (two gold, one silver, two bronze) in 11th place overall, followed by Qatar (two gold, one silver, one bronze) in joint 12th. Bahrain held one gold and two silver, Jordan one gold, one silver and one bronze, and Saudi Arabia two silver and two bronze.
