His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE Sailing and Rowing Federation, has been elected as Chairman of Council Group I within World Sailing, the international governing body for the sport of sailing.

With this appointment, H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Hamdan will serve as an active member of the World Sailing Board of Directors for the 2025-2028 Olympic cycle.

Group I is one of 17 groups representing various regions globally.

These group chairpersons are nominated and elected by their respective national federations and automatically become members of World Sailing's Board of Directors, alongside ten other members who will be elected during the upcoming General Assembly in Singapore, scheduled for November.

These board members also include representatives for women, people of determination, and special sailing categories such as ocean sailing.

H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Hamdan was unanimously chosen by the national sailing federations of Middle Eastern and West Asian countries, including Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar, Oman, Palestine, Jordan, Iraq, and Iran.
