Dr Anwar Gargash, Diplomatic Adviser to the UAE President, has called for “realistic and sustainable political solutions” to address the ongoing regional crisis.
His comments came after the UAE Air Force responded to an unmanned aerial vehicle detected over the country’s territorial waters while approaching from Iran, according to an official statement.
In a post on X, Dr Gargash said the policy of targeting the Arab Gulf states and Jordan had proved unsuccessful. He also said that “the state of neither war nor peace cannot provide a sustainable solution”, referring to the prolonged regional tension that has stopped short of full-scale war but has not produced peace.
Dr Gargash said realistic and sustainable solutions should address both the political and economic dimensions of the crisis. Such solutions should begin with de-escalation and the restoration of normal navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, he said.
Dr Gargash also called for a more pragmatic approach that moves beyond the memorandum of understanding, which he said had failed to establish a practical and acceptable roadmap. He appeared to be referring to the memorandum of understanding between the US and Iran that expired in August.
