KUWAIT (ALETIHAD)

Kuwait's Public Authority for Civil Aviation (PACA) on Wednesday activated its emergency plan at Kuwait International Airport after Terminal One (T1) was struck by Iranian missiles and drones earlier in the morning, wounding several people and causing damage to facilities, Spokesman Abdullah Al-Rajhi said.

In a statement carried by the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), Al-Rajhi said authorities were responding to the attack in line with established emergency protocols to ensure the safety of workers and passengers and secure airport facilities.

He confirmed that air traffic had been suspended and flights diverted to nearby airports until further notice.

The measure was taken as security and technical contingency plans were being implemented to enable the eventual resumption of airport operations, Al-Rajhi said. Technical teams are assessing the extent of the damage before repair work begins, he added.

KUNA, citing the ‌General Civil Aviation Authority, earlier reported that the attack had caused "severe damage" to the airport's T1 building.

The US ‌military said two Iranian missiles fired at Kuwait fell short or broke apart en route, and three missiles launched at Bahrain were ‌intercepted by US and Bahraini forces.

Kuwaiti Ministry of Defence spokesman Brigadier General Saud Abdulaziz Al-Atwan described the drone strike on the passenger terminal as "criminal Iranian aggression which resulted in significant material damage to the building and injuries."

Al-Atwan, in a social media post, did not say how many people were hurt but said those wounded had received medical care.
