Taiwan stocks fall 5.8 percent in afternoon trade

Taiwan stocks fell 5.8 percent in afternoon trade Wednesday, as US President Donald Trump's far-reaching tariffs took effect.

The Taiex index was down 1,074.32 at 17,385.63, despite the government activating a $15 billion stabilisation fund to calm the market.
