As Eid Al-Fitr approaches, families across the UAE are embracing the festive spirit, spending more time together and heading out to shopping centres and traditional markets. And the first thing on their lists? Picking out new clothes for the celebration.

While many have already placed orders for bespoke outfits well in advance to beat the rush, there are still those who wait until closer to the date to make their selections. After all, the excitement of shopping for Eid has become one of the cherished traditions that come with the occasion.

“My family and I go shopping together every year before Eid,” said UAE national Aryam Mohammed. Walking from shop to shop, browsing through racks of specially curated Eid collections, trying on outfits, and exchanging opinions in anticipation of the festivities — all these moments, she said, create a sense of togetherness and joy that is best shared with loved ones.

It’s no surprise that tailor shops and clothing stores are “extremely busy right now”, said Mariam Abdullah.

“Everyone wants to wear something unique for family visits and Eid prayers. The entire city seems to be getting ready at once,” she added.

One outfit is never enough, they noted, as a series of gatherings, family visits, and social events are typically lined up throughout the day. Children, too, are thrilled to step out in brand-new clothes, eager to show off their festive attire.

With this seasonal surge in demand, retailers seize the opportunity to attract customers through exclusive collections, special discounts, and promotions tailored for Eid.

Aryam said dressing to impress makes the occasion even more festive. After a month of fasting and reflection, the tradition of wearing fresh clothes symbolises happiness, renewal, and celebration.

“We visit relatives and take lots of pictures together after the Eid prayer,” she said. “It makes the day feel even more special when you wear new clothes.”
