RAIED SHUQUM (ABU DHABI)

British band Take That is set to perform in Abu Dhabi on October 25, as part of their “This Life On Tour 2024”, at the Etihad Park on Yas Island, marking a rare opportunity to see the iconic band live in the region.

The band debuted in their only UAE concert at the Dubai Media Amphitheatre in 2017.

The pop group formed in Manchester in 1990. The original lineup included Gary Barlow, Howard Donald, Mark Owen, Jason Orange, and Robbie Williams. The band quickly rose to fame in the early 1990s with a series of hit singles and albums, becoming one of the most successful boy bands of the decade.

Their debut album, “Take That & Party”, was released in 1992 and included hits like “It Only Takes a Minute” and “A Million Love Songs”. The band’s popularity soared with their second album, “Everything Changes”, which featured chart-topping singles such as “Pray”, “Relight My Fire” and “Babe”. This album solidified their status as pop icons in the UK and Europe.

Despite Williams’ departure, in 1995, the band continued as a four-piece and released their third album, “Nobody Else”, which included the hit single “Back for Good”. However, the band split in 1996, much to the dismay of their fans.

During their hiatus, the members pursued individual projects. Williams achieved significant success as a solo artist, becoming one of the UK’s best-selling music artists. Barlow and Owen launched solo music careers, while Donald became a DJ, and Orange explored acting.

In 2005, the members reunited, without Williams, for a documentary titled “Take That: For the Record”, which reignited interest in the band. This led to a full reunion tour in 2006 and the release of their comeback album, “Beautiful World”.

The album was a commercial success, featuring hits like “Patience” and “Shine”.
Williams rejoined the band in 2010 for the album “Progress”, which became one of the fastest-selling albums in UK history and the accompanying tour, “Progress Live”, set records for ticket sales. However, Williams and Orange both left the band again in subsequent years, leaving Barlow, Donald, and Owen to continue as a trio.

The trio continued to release music and tour, maintaining a loyal fan base. Their ability to evolve while maintaining their signature sound has ensured their continued relevance in the ever-changing music landscape. Talent and being able to connect with their audience adds to their enduring appeal.

Barlow, known for his engaging stage presence, often takes time to interact with fans, sharing stories and expressing gratitude for their support. This personal touch adds a layer of intimacy to their concerts, making each show feel unique and special.

Over the years, they have released numerous chart-topping singles and albums, earning a dedicated fan base worldwide. Their music, characterised by catchy melodies and heartfelt lyrics, has resonated with audiences of all ages.

Their upcoming concert in Abu Dhabi is expected to feature a mix of the band’s classic hits and newer material. Fans can look forward to hearing beloved songs such as “Back for Good”, “Patience”, and “Rule the World”, alongside tracks from their latest album.

Owen shared his excitement with Yalla Abu Dhabi Life about the upcoming concert, saying: “Whenever I step off the plane in Abu Dhabi, the warmth and hospitality of the place welcome me back. The weather is always a massive advantage at this time of year, making it even more enjoyable to perform”.

He also mentioned how special it is to perform in Abu Dhabi due to its vibrant expat community, “that brings a vibrant energy to the audience”.

The band is known for incorporating unexpected elements into their shows, whether it’s a guest appearance by a local artist or a unique rendition of a popular song, ensuring that each concert is a one-of-a-kind experience.

Take That’s decision to include Abu Dhabi in their tour schedule highlights the city’s ever-growing reputation as a cultural hub. Over the past few years, Abu Dhabi has hosted a range of high-profile events, attracting international artists and performers.
