SARA ALZAABI (ABU DHABI)

The 6th edition of the Department of Culture and Tourism (DCT) - Abu Dhabi’s “Ramadan Arcade” returned to Manarat Al Saadiyat for a dynamic blend of activities that promote artistic connection and cultural immersion during the holy month.

This year’s schedule, running from March 21-31 between 9 pm and 2 am, is full of activities including the first-ever ladies-only event by the Pink Majlis community, featuring a wide range of workshops and competitive gaming sessions, as well as art exhibits, comedy shows, and photobooths.
One of the visitors, Sara Alkhoori, told Aletihad about the unique atmosphere the “Ramadan Arcade” offers.

“The event is a family-friendly Ramadan event featuring food projects, hand-crafted artistic activities, and Pink Majlis. I have enjoyed the games and the atmosphere after Iftar,” she said.
Huda Alkhoori echoed the sentiments, adding that she was happy to learn that handicraft workshops are suitable for audiences of all ages.

“This is the first time for me to attend the event after knowing that there is the Pink Majilis exclusive to women. When I arrived, I learned that there are activities made by hand that are suitable for both adults and children to participate in,” she told Aletihad.

The event also offers daily musical performances, including a special Ramadan concert by Bait Al Oud, instrumental demonstrations by The Fridge Entertainment, and a traditional Emirati “Malid” performance.

Musician and Qanun player Odai Al-Suliman captivated the audience on March 24 with a compelling performance called “Majeediyat”, which features a succession of instrumental reinterpretations of Abdul Majeed Abdallah’s revived melodies, directed by Rowdha Al Sayegh.

Other musicians will also take the stage, including Armenian-Syrian musician and Qanun player, Shogher Degirmenjian, who expressed her joy about having an opportunity to share her art with others.

“As a 20-year Qanun player, I enjoy playing new songs and participating in diverse events; especially to the audience who showcase their interaction and appreciation of my music,” she told Aletihad.

March 30 will be packed with laughter, as renowned Arab comedians Mina Liccione, Ali Al Sayed, Abz Ali, and Abdullah Al Qassab will take the stage in a comedy night presented by 808 Entertainment.
A variety of vintage arcade games and board games will also be offered, in addition to the Arcade’s well-known FIFA and Carom competitions. Adding to the fun and excitement, Abu Dhabi Gaming will be debuting proprietary board games created in the United Arab Emirates in addition to VR stations provided by Pixoul Gaming.

Another visitor, a university student, Khalifa Alsanadi, commented: “I am celebrating my first Ramadan in UAE after a while, and I am here for the second time. I enjoy being in the company of my friends. The electronic and video games were my favourite part of the evening.”

Additionally, “Concept. Abd” will have an interactive photobooth station at the event, allowing guests to cherish their Ramadan memories with friends and family by taking Instagram-worthy photos.
Visitors will also have an opportunity to enjoy various exhibitions and installations, showcasing unique perspectives of artists from all around the world.

A Netherlands textile artist and an art teacher at Manarat Al Saadiyat, Hanneke Reinalda, shared her experience with Aletihad, sating: “I am enjoying teaching art and contributing to the creation of workshops since 2019. This gathering is unique because it captures the essence of authentic Emirati life, with everyone playing games and enjoying the festive atmosphere. Ramadan is a time when people give generously to others while also having a good time together.”

Another participant, Abdulla Almheiri, who is a visual and photography artist, said: “ I have participated in this event using traditional carpets as a background, showcasing art in a memorable way. The event attracted a great turnout and encouraged me to continue photography.”
