Khaled Mohamed Balama, Governor of the Central Bank of the UAE (CBUAE), has received an “A-” grade in Global Finance magazine’s 2026 ranking of central bank governors, according to a statement issued by the CBUAE.

The grade placed Balama among the world’s highest-rated central bank governors for the year, the statement said.

Global Finance’s annual Central Banker Report Cards assess the performance of central bank governors from about 100 countries and territories, as well as several regional monetary institutions. An “A-” is among the highest grades awarded by the publication.

The CBUAE said the recognition reflected Balama’s role in maintaining monetary and financial stability and strengthening confidence among markets and the public.

The assessment covers areas including inflation control, economic growth, currency stability, interest-rate management and independence in decision-making, according to the statement.

The CBUAE said the recognition also reflected the resilience of the UAE’s financial and banking system and its ability to adapt to global economic and financial developments.

The central bank attributed this resilience to regulatory and supervisory frameworks and policies aligned with international best practices and standards.

The statement also highlighted the CBUAE’s work to strengthen the banking sector, support sustainable economic growth and develop the UAE’s financial and digital infrastructure.

These efforts have helped improve the efficiency of the financial system and its ability to respond to global developments and challenges, the CBUAE added.

Global Finance has published its annual Central Banker Report Cards since 1994.

The complete 2026 rankings will appear in the print and digital editions of the magazine’s October issue.
