Abu Dhabi’s healthcare ecosystem was honoured at the 2025 International Hospital Federation (IHF) Awards, held during the World Hospital Congress in Geneva, reinforcing Abu Dhabi’s position as a leading healthcare destination globally and its commitment to delivering high-quality care and strengthening the health and well-being of the community.
The Department of Health – Abu Dhabi was honoured with an Honourable Mention in the Ashikaga – Nikken Excellence Award for Low-Carbon Healthcare, demonstrating its efforts to build a sustainable and climate-resilient ecosystem.
Meanwhile, Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City (SSMC), a flagship hospital in the UAE for serious and complex care and a subsidiary of PureHealth, the Middle East’s largest healthcare group, was honoured in two prestigious categories at the IHF Awards.
SSMC was selected for an Honourable Mention in the Dr Prathap C Reddy Excellence Award for Clinical Quality and Patient Safety, an international accolade recognising organisations that implement innovative initiatives to enhance patient safety, strengthen clinical outcomes, and foster a culture of continuous improvement.
SSMC and Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi received Special Recognition for Sustained Excellence under the IHF’s highest honour, the Dr Kwang Tae Kim Grand Hospital Award.
This recognition celebrates hospitals or health service providers that demonstrate outstanding excellence across multiple dimensions of care, including quality, patient experience, clinical outcomes, cost efficiency, and workforce wellbeing.

The recognitions were presented during the World Hospital Congress in Geneva as part of the annual IHF Awards, launched in 2015 to honour excellence in hospitals and healthcare organisations around the world.
