In the region’s desert landscape, where fresh water remains a precious resource, this Emirati company is pulling it straight from air – aiming to make “Made in UAE” drinking water a staple across the Middle East.

Ma Hawa, under Baynunah Watergeneration Technologies SP (Abu Dhabi), uses patented air-to-water technology to produce clean drinking water from ambient humidity.

At ADIHEX, Amro Asmael, Group Marketing Director at Baynunah Watergeneration, walked Aletihad through the company’s low-energy and cost-effective water generation solutions for homes, offices, rural settlements, and even mobile operations.

“The machines that create water go through seven layers of filtration,” explained Asmael. “They filter the air, purify the water with nano-ceramic and carbon filters, mineralise it, and then protect it with UV-C light.”

The company’s largest unit, the GEN-L, produces up to 6,000 litres of fresh water every 24 hours.

Designed as an intelligent modular system, multiple GEN-L units can be linked to create water-from-air production farms.

Medium-scale units like the GEN-M Pro and GEN-M1 serve residential and work campuses, producing 900 litres and 220 litres daily, respectively.

For home and office use, Ma Hawa offers the Geney and Geney Home, producing 30 to 80 litres a day, while mobile solutions like MOBILE BOX and ONBOARD provide drinking water for vehicles, campers and off-grid installations.

The company prioritises sustainability and efficiency, according to Asmael. “All our machines consume just one kilowatt of electricity to produce five litres of water.”

Unlike large-scale desalination plants that require years to build and millions of dollars in investment, Ma Hawa units are plug-and-play, compact and automated, Asmael noted.

“It’s a solution that works anytime, anywhere, without the infrastructure or costs of traditional water systems.”

Currently available in the UAE, Ma Hawa is exploring expansion across the GCC and wider Middle East and North Africa.

“If you can breathe it, you can drink it. Our goal is to make this sustainable water accessible to as many people as possible,” Asmael.

Ma Hawa officially launched its technology in 2023 during the UAE’s Year of Sustainability. According to Asmael, the company will soon roll out next-generation units designed to deliver higher water output without increasing the current energy use of one kilowatt.
