China’s ByteDance has rolled out its Doubao 2.0 chatbot, an upgrade of Doubao which is currently the country’s most widely used artificial intelligence app, according to QuestMobile, the company said on Saturday.
One year after Chinese startup DeepSeek rattled the global tech industry with the release of a low-cost artificial intelligence model, its domestic rivals are better prepared, vying with it to launch new models, some designed with more consumer appeal.
The new model is capable of deep thinking and long, multi-step task execution that matches the capabilities of US rival OpenAI's GPT 5.2 and Google's Gemini 3 Pro, Bytedance said.
Doubao is China's most popular AI chatbot in terms of weekly active users, according to data published by Quest Mobile in December.
