ABU DHABI (ALETIHAD)
PureHealth and the Group’s super app Pura, have officially set the Guinness World Records title for most users to complete a remote 1 km walk in 24 hours, partnered with Active Abu Dhabi.
On November 29, 2024, almost 4,000 participants from across the UAE completed the walking challenge, achieving the minimum requirement of 250 participants.
The event, held in partnership with Active Abu Dhabi, an initiative between Emirates Foundation and PureHealth, demonstrated the incredible power of community collaboration in building a healthier, more active society.
The record-breaking walking challenge was powered by Pura, which allowed participants to join remotely from wherever they were based. Leveraging GPS technology, Pura tracked each participant’s progress in real time, fostering a dynamic and interactive experience. By making the event accessible and engaging, Pura reflects PureHealth's commitment to personalised wellness, encouraging active lifestyles, and nurturing an inclusive community.
Ahmed Taleb AlShamsi, Chief Executive Officer of Emirates Foundation, said, “Securing this Guinness World Records™ title is a moment of immense pride for all of us. It highlights the power of collaboration and the incredible impact of collective action in promoting a healthier society. This accomplishment is a testament to the unified spirit of our people and underscores the importance of active living in building a healthier, more connected society.”
Shaista Asif, Group Chief Executive Officer of PureHealth, said, "This world record is a reflection of the impact of community-driven health initiatives. It demonstrates that small, consistent actions when embraced collectively can lead to meaningful change in how we approach health and well-being. Through Pura, we can create opportunities that encourage individuals to prioritise wellness and adopt habits that promote longevity. This milestone represents more than just a record; it establishes a legacy of health awareness and community connection that will continue to inspire positive change for years to come."
Mansoor Al Dhaheri, Founder of Active Abu Dhabi, said, "Achieving this Guinness World Records™ title is a proud moment and a testament to the collective dedication and spirit of our community. Active Abu Dhabi is committed to creating a healthier, more active society, and this milestone highlights the power of unity in promoting wellness. The enthusiasm and participation we witnessed are inspiring, and this achievement is just the beginning of our journey to drive positive change across the emirate."
Notably, studies show that adding just 1,000 steps to a daily routine (approximately 10 minutes of brisk walking) can reduce the risk of mortality by 15 per cent. By championing walking as a simple yet impactful activity, Active Abu Dhabi aims to inspire individuals to adopt small, consistent habits that contribute to longer, healthier lives.
The Guinness World Records™ title builds on the success of Active Abu Dhabi’s Walk1000 initiative, which featured athletes covering a 1,000-kilometre journey across the Abu Dhabi desert to highlight resilience, unity, and the spirit of active living. Since its launch in March 2024, Active Abu Dhabi has been a community-focused programme dedicated to improving holistic health, preserving cultural heritage, and supporting environmental sustainability.
Through its support of community health initiatives, PureHealth empowers individuals to adopt sustainable habits, prioritise health awareness, engage with their communities, and lead more active, fulfilling lives.
