H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, held separate meetings in New York with a number of foreign ministers from countries participating in the 79th session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA 79).
His Highness Sheikh Abdullah met with Antony Blinken, US Secretary of State; Baiba Braže, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Latvia; Dr. Ian Borg, Minister for Foreign and European Affairs and Trade of Malta; Mohamed Hasan, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia; Dr. Vivian Balakrishnan, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Singapore; Maxim Ryzhenkov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus; Diana Mondino, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Trade and Worship of Argentina; and George Gerapetritis, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Greece.
Sheikh Abdullah and the foreign ministers discussed various issues on the agenda of the UN General Assembly, highlighting the importance of joint cooperation within international organisations and its role in supporting global sustainable development goals.
They also reviewed bilateral cooperation and partnerships in fields such as economy, trade, investment, education, food security, health, culture, artificial intelligence, advanced technology, renewable energy, and climate.
H.H. Sheikh Abdullah welcomed the ministers, emphasising the UAE’s steadfast commitment to strengthening bonds of friendship with nations around the world and expressing the desire for further cooperation in areas that align with shared development aspirations and efforts towards achieving sustainable economic prosperity.
Sheikh Abdullah also discussed the latest regional and international developments with the ministers, including the situation in the Middle East and its repercussions on international peace and security.
In a related context, Sheikh Abdullah held a meeting with Dr. Comfort Ero, President and CEO of the International Crisis Group, where they discussed cooperation between the UAE and the group, particularly on humanitarian issues in light of current challenges in various regions.
His Highness also met with Mirjana Spoljaric Egger, President of the International Committee of the Red Cross, where they discussed cooperation in humanitarian and relief efforts, focusing on enhancing the humanitarian response to the needs of civilians in the Gaza Strip and the UAE's role in providing aid to affected communities globally.
The meetings were attended by Reem bint Ibrahim Al Hashimy, Minister of State for International Cooperation; Ahmed bin Ali Al Sayegh, Minister of State; Lana Nusseibeh, Assistant Foreign Minister for Political Affairs; Yousef Al Otaiba, UAE Ambassador to the US; Saeed Mubarak Al Hajeri, Assistant Foreign Minister for Economic and Trade Affairs; Omran Sharaf, Assistant Foreign Minister for Advanced Science and Technology; and Ambassador Mohamed Abushahab, Permanent Representative of the UAE to the UN.
